Bodega Bay Vacation Rentals - The Best Way to Watch the Whales in Paradise

Written By Geoff Miller

Between the months of January and the middle of May you can go to Bodega Head for a hike through spectacular scenery then stop by to ask questions of volunteers from the Oceanic Society. These volunteers ask questions and give information about whale watching in Bodega Bay, which is one of the most popular activities for visitors staying in Bodega Bay vacation rentals. Between the hours of noon and 4 PM you can swing by and ask these knowledgeable volunteers all about whale watching in the local area.

Why would professionals take the time to voluntarily inform visitors and locals about whale watching? It's because Bodega Bay happens to be a great place to watch the yearly migration of the gray whales and many people travel at just the right time to stay in their Bodega Bay vacation rentals to catch this exciting event. While browsing through their informative website you will learn that the yearly gray whale migration begins in the Bering, Chukchi and Beaufort seas after they feed in the summer. The Pacific Coast is their route to the lagoons off of Baja California, Mexico, where they spend the winter months. When the weather starts to warm up you can see the mother whales guarding their young as they travel back using the same route.

While these hiking trails are simply astounding in beauty and they can be quite romantic on a clear, sunny day they may not be the best option for a family with children if the weather is not perfectly clear. While you are walking the path you will wind rather close to steep cliffs leading down to the crashing waves of the ocean. While this is beautiful you have to be careful to stay on the path and not step over to the cliffs. On a windy day it may feel too unstable for comfort along those portions of the trail. Still, these trails are something worth seeing for everyone staying in a Sonoma Coast vacation rental.

While staying at your Sonoma Coast vacation rental you have to see the breathtaking scenery presented on this hiking trail. Just watch your step carefully as some of the trail goes dangerously close to the cliffs, which offer sharp drops off to the crashing ocean below. While this is completely amazing to view and can produce some of the best pictures ever taken, you have to be careful and make sure to visit on a clear day without a lot of wind. Besides looking down those stiff cliffs to the water below you will see fields of beautiful wildflowers and beautiful grasslands along this southern trail. Once you go around the curve in the trail you will see Pt. Reyes and Tomales Bay across the ocean. At one poine Bodega Rock appears and it is often covered in sea lions whose calls and noises can be easily heard from the trail. That right there is a moment to stop and soak up paradise before returning to your Bodega Bay vacation rentals for the evening.

Heading back toward your Bodega Bay or Sonoma Coast vacation rental you can see an amazing view of Bodega Bay. You will also see rolling hillsides, campgrounds, and Doran Beach off in the distance.

This is just one of the amazing experiences you family can enjoy while visiting Bodega Bay vacation rentals or Sonoma Coast vacation rental properties. There are many other exciting activities to take in while visiting the Bodega Bay area!
